Xbox Live 12-Month Gold Membership Discontinued by Microsoft

Widely reported by a number of news outlets, and initially thought to be mere speculation, it has now been confirmed that Microsoft has discontinued its 12-month subscription of Xbox Live Gold.

This change was confirmed by Microsoft via TrueAchievements, confirming that 12-month access to Xbox Live Gold is no longer being sold. Microsoft, did confirm, however, that the 3-month and 1-month plans are still available for purchase. Microsoft went on to say:

“At this time, Xbox has decided to remove the 12 months Xbox Live Gold SKU from the Microsoft online Store.” A Microsoft representative said. “Customers can still sign up for a one month or three month Xbox Live Gold subscription online through the Microsoft Store.”

The big question is whether or not this is an indicator that Microsoft is phasing out its Xbox Live Gold SKU altogether for something else, perhaps its extremely popular Xbox Live Game Pass Ultimate?
